Salt chlorination is the most demanded and common alternative to chemical chlorine, since it preserves all the disinfection power and does not have any harmful effect as chemical chlorine does. But how does it work?

This method of disinfection is based on the momentary conversion, by means of concatenated electrical discharges, of salt into chlorine: Sodium chloride + water = sodium hydroxide + hydrogen + chlorine.

The chlorine resulting from the salt electrolysis process is mixed with water in the form of hydrochloric acid, which has an oxidizing effect that destroys bacteria and germs.

When the water is disinfected, the hydrochloric acid reacts with the sodium hydroxide to generate salt, which is returned to the water.

This reaction is very fast, so the presence of chlorine in the water takes place during a very short interval of time, unlike what happens with chemical chlorine.

As a consequence, the user does not perceive the presence of chlorine at all, noticing only the salty water.

This process is repeated over and over again, so the user only needs to check the salt level and the pH of the water, which will vary less than in the case of pools treated with chemical chlorine.

It works by simply attaching the chlorinator to the outlet of the treatment plant and adding 3kg of salt per 1,000 liters of water.
